Jack Melvin Shannon, 89, of Belton, TX., passed away on Saturday, July 20, at a Temple hospital. His visitation will be on Thursday, July 25, at Dossman Funeral Home 6-8pm. Services will be on Friday, the 26th, at 10am, also at Dossman Funeral Home. Burial at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery will be on Tuesday, July 30th, at 10:00am.
Mr. Shannon was born on November 24, 1934, in Port Arthur, TX., to parents Henry and Ivy Shannon.
Jack spent his life serving the causes in which he believed, whether it was his military service or later in life his volunteer service with Campers on Mission and other ministry services to aid those in need. He was affectionately known to his grand and great grandkids as Pa Jack and for his neighbors and the medical staff that aided him as Mr. Jack.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Albert Shannon and Ivy Virginia Freeman Shannon.
He is survived by his wife Nan L. Shannon, son, Lee A. Shannon and wife Janet, of Belton; his sister, Virginia N. Shannon and husband Larry Baker, of Temple; three grandchildren, Samuel L. Shannon and wife Carrie, of Belton, Christin L. Shannon and Fiancé Jerry, of Belton, and Joshua and wife Marina; and three great grandchildren, Boris Robinson, Addison Shannon, and Jackson Shannon, all of Belton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for a donation to Hope for the Hungry or Soldiers of the Cross Cowboy Fellowship.
