Amelia Lorenzo of Belton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at age 96, with her loving family at her side. Amelia was born on November 14, 1928, in San José de los Llanos, Dominican Republic to parents Aristides and Evangelista Chavier. She was raised in Los Llanos with older siblings, Mirtha and Ligia, and younger siblings, Milagros, Juan, Aristides, Mireya, Francisca, and Gilda. After graduating from nursing school, she worked as a nurse in Hospital Padre Billini in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, which is where she met her husband, Dr. Modesto Lorenzo. They were married on April 7, 1956, and shared 68 years of marriage. They moved to Michigan and raised their four children together. She moved to Texas in 2003 with her husband, daughter, and granddaughter and traveled regularly to visit her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in California and Rhode Island. Amelia was a dedicated and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was full of love and generosity and was loved by so many.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Juan and Aristides; and four sisters, Mirtha, Milagros, Mireya, and Francisca.
She is survived by her husband, Modesto A. Lorenzo, M.D.; one son, Alfredo (Ruth) Lorenzo; three daughters, Rosa (Christopher) Downey, Amelia Lorenzo, M.D., and Angela Maria (Lance) Bay; 13 grandchildren, Ana (Don), Bettina (Pietro), Christina (Michael), Melissa (Bryant), Michaela Alexander), Laura, Nina, Alfredo, Roberto, Renzo, Soraya (Humberto), Amalia, and Louisa; five great grandchildren, Antonio, Ariana, Lorenzo, Landon, and Brooks; and two sisters, Ligia and Gilda.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 28th, 10:00am-12:00pm at Dossman Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 28th, 2025 at Christ the King Catholic Church at 2pm. The burial will follow at North Belton Cemetery.
