Walter J. Minica, 91, of Belton passed away peacefully early Tuesday, January 16, 2024 after a brief illness. Services will be held Monday, January 22, 2024 at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton with visitation with family at 9:00 am and services at 10:00 am. Dub Falsone will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Moffat Cemetery.
Mr. Minica was born June 17, 1932 in Brown County to Horace Walter Minica and Mary Eva (Hinesly) Minica. He met the love of his life Bettie Joyce Crocker in high school and they eloped and married January 17, 1953 in Adamsville, Tx. He graduated from Lampasas High School and then attended Howard Payne University. Mr. Minica served in the Army, Company B 9 th Ordinance Bn. in Germany. He then worked for the Temple Post Office and the Temple Police Department. Mr. Minica became the Director of the Bell County Juvenile Probation Department and served there 26 years until his retirement.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bettie, and infant son, Monte Ray.
Survivors include his two sons, Tony (Kitty) Minica of Belton, Terry (Bev) Minica of Round Rock, two daughters Deniece (Richard) Mitchell of Mayfield, New Mexico and Elaine (Jim) Willis of Belton. Nine grandchildren including Melanie (Julius) Minica-Osak of New York, Jessica (Brian) Robb of Alabama, Valerie (Walter) Jarnagin of Belton, Abby (Philip) Goertz of Elgin, Julie (Wayne) Lovings of Austin, Rachel (David) Herndon of San Francisco, Jonathan (Jessica) Alligood of Temple, Wayne Willis of Belton and Chris (Crissy) Willis of Belton, Fifteen great grandkids including, Nick, Alex, Cheyenne, Mary Anabelle, Connor, Hannah, Emma, Poppy, Rex, Ranger, Prim, Sage, Lily, Romeo and Chayton.
After retirement, Betty and Walter enjoyed many years of traveling including camping, cruises and a trip to Germany and Spain. Their home was always filled with much laughter and lots of family and friends. Pepaw as the children called him loved doing puppet shows for the grandkids with his friend Daisy Duck. Memaw and Pepaw attended many school plays, sporting events and grandparent’s day luncheons. Now they are dancing and cheering us on from heaven. We were truly blessed.
