Funeral services Virginia Hickerson, 101, of Belton, will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, at North Belton Cemetery with Rev. Steve Vaughn officiating.
Visitation will be from 1-5 PM Thursday, at the Dossman Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hickerson died Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at a Belton nursing home.
Mrs. Hickerson was born June 22, 1919, in Anson, the daughter of Homer D. Payne Sr. and Essie Viola “Ola” (Hendrix) Payne. She married Byron Royce Hickerson, December 18, 1949, in Amarillo. She attended business college and went to work for the Department of the Interior in Washington D.C. She worked for the federal government for more than 30 years, retiring from the W. R. Poage Federal Building in Temple.
She and her husband also lived on and worked the family farm for many years. She was a longtime member of Elm Grove Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hickerson was preceded in death by her husband in 2013 and one brother, W. C. Dub Payne and one sister Wanda Payne.
Survivors include one brother Homer D. Payne of San Antonio; one brother-in-law Mac Hickerson and wife Jane of Belton; two sisters-in-law Algia Payne of Grapevine and Hazel Ann Blue of Kingwood and many nieces and nephews.
Masks are encouraged to be worn.
Memorials may be made to Elm Grove Baptist Church in Belton.
