Vera J. Knowles

Services for Vera J. Knowles, 89, of  Belton will be held Wednesday, February 27 ^th at 2:00 PM, at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton with Stephen Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple.

Mrs. Knowles died Saturday February 23, at Stoney Brook of Belton.

She was born June 26, 1929 in Rockdale, Texas to Rufus E. and Wilma O. (Dickey) Luckey. She attended schools in Rockdale, Thorndale and Houston.  Her family moved to the Bell County area in the 1940’s.  She married Jack Knowles on June 28, 1946 in Temple. He preceded her in death in 2005. She worked as a dental assistant at the VA Hospital in Temple.  She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church of Temple where she served on the Altar Guild.

She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ed Luckey.

Survivors include two daughters, Yvonne Whitmire of Belton, and Dawn Newman and husband Kevin of Harker Heights; two brothers, James E.(Gene) Luckey of Sharp and John L.(Leon) Luckey of College Station; two sisters, Dottie Hightower and Cindy Mushinski, both of Bryan; three grandchildren, Karla Whitmire Neidhart and husband Keith, William J. Dorsey III (Trey) and wife, Crystal, and Meghan N. Newman, and two great grandchildren, Jack Neidhart and Jackson Dorsey as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 27, at 1:00 PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Kay Welch-Hirrill and the entire staff of Stoney Brook of Belton, Assisted Living Center, including Ann Sanders for the love, care, and dedication they provided. Each member of the staff, as well as the friends she made among the residents were a blessing to both her and her family.  She felt very much “at home” there.

In addition, a special thank you to the Baylor Scott and White Hospice team for their assistance, loving care and friendship. Kathy and Erma had a very special place in her heart.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be made to Baylor Scott and White Hospice.
