Silas Thornton

Silas Thornton, 89, of Temple passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at his home in Temple.

Graveside services for Silas will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the San Marcos City Cemetery with Rev. Mike Baggerly officiating.

Silas was born on October 27, 1930 in South Texas. He grew up and attended school in South Texas. Mr. Thornton joined the US Coast Guard and after his service he began a long career as an air traffic controller with civil service. Silas retired in 1967 and traveled extensively during his retirement, settling in the Temple-Belton area in 2000. He married Dorothy Thompson on June 7, 1958 in Menard, Texas and they were married for 44 years before she passed away in 2002. He was a Methodist.

Survivors include sons Silas A. Thornton, William K. Thornton, Barry R. Thornton, and Jerry D. Thornton; daughters Commilla A. Taylor, Silene J. Mills, and Terri Lee, and sister Mary Price. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boysville, Inc of San Antonio, PO Box 369, Converse, Texas 78109-0369.
