In Loving Memory of Rosemary Hunter Barnes
On July 21, 2023, the world lost a shining light as Rosemary Hunter Barnes peacefully passed away in Temple, Texas, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Belton, Texas on March 15th, 1935, to Willie Lee and Kyle Carpenter, Rosemary spent her entire life in the Belton area, where she touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Rosemary married Dorman "Catfish" Hunter, also of Belton, in 1955. Together, they were blessed with two children, Forrest Craig and Dorman Keith, who brought immeasurable happiness and purpose to their lives. As a grandmother, Rosemary found immense delight in her role. Her four adored grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she took joy in spoiling them with affection, laughter, and Big Red floats.
After Dorman’s passing in 1999, she found love again and married Jerry Barnes, also of Belton, in 2003. The two were active with their church’s Golden Agers group and enjoyed traveling frequently in their RV.
Rosemary was a woman of many talents. She loved flowers and gardening, and her backyard was a stunning oasis, even in the scorching heat of Central Texas, thanks to her green thumb. In the kitchen, her culinary skills were unrivaled, and her banana pudding and peanut pattie recipes will be passed on for generations. Her creativity knew no bounds, as she enjoyed sketching and oil painting, leaving behind pieces of art that will forever be cherished.
Though not an avid participant herself, Rosemary showed unwavering support for her husband and sons in their hunting and fishing adventures. Her kindness and caring nature extended beyond her immediate family, as she embraced a close circle of friends, never missing their weekly coffee dates. Her humor was infectious, and her dimpled smile could light up any room she entered. Her love for her friends and family was fierce, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Rosemary leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience. She is survived by her loving sons, Forrest Craig and wife Bernadette of Georgetown, and Dorman Keith and wife Valerie of San Antonio. She is also survived by her sister Judy and husband Lynn of Littleton, Colorado, her grandchildren Sara Kenton and husband Adam of Dripping Springs, Katy Wilmore and husband Spencer of Ft. Worth, Dana Whitney and husband Miles of China Spring, and Forrest Craig Hunter Jr. and wife Alaura of Anahuac, along with 10 great-grandchildren.
Rosemary is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dorman Hunter, her dear siblings Tommie Lee Crane, Kyle Don Carpenter, Rick Carpenter, and Peggy Hayes, and her parents, Kyle and Willie Lee Carpenter, all of whom undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms.
A visitation to honor Rosemary's life will be held in the Chapel at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton, Texas, scheduled for Wednesday, July 26th, from 6 - 8 pm in the evening.
A private graveside memorial for family members will take place on July 27th.
May her memory forever bloom in our hearts, and may her spirit guide us through life's challenges. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association and encourage all to volunteer at your local memory care facility.
