A celebration of life for Robert Vernon Rushing, Sr., 87, of Moody, will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Trinity Full Gospel Church in Belton with Cody Alan Rushing officiating.

Mr. Rushing passed from this life on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at his home in Moody.

Mr. Rushing was born April 25, 1935, in Caddo, Oklahoma, the son of Robert E. Rushing and Meady Jewel (Laird) Rushing. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956 during the Korean War. He served in the anti-aircraft unit of the First Marine Division. Upon his return from war, he met and married his sweetheart, Joan Lasly in 1958. Mr. Rushing went on to have a successful career as an engineer, leading the engineering departments of both Southwestern Bell and Sprint. He went on to co-found United International, an engineering consulting firm.

In his free time, Mr. Rushing enjoyed spending time with his family and working outside on his farm. He had a special knack for refurbishing Farmall tractors and enjoyed putting them to work once restored. He loved football, both watching and playing in front-yard games with family. He eagerly attended any sporting event his grandchildren were involved with, particularly enjoying softball. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Fairfield and Troy, achieving the level of 32nd Degree Mason and Master Mason. Mr. Rushing was known for entertaining family and friends, and his BBQ was always a crowd favorite. Always quick to laugh and having a good sense of humor, he enjoyed playing a good prank now and again, and then loved to retell his antics for years to come. He particularly enjoyed traveling and was known to head out on a trip with no destination in mind and just see where the road took him. He loved to reminisce about his time in the Marine Corps and proudly wore his Korean Veteran hat as often as possible. Mr. Rushing thought the world of his children and grandchildren and was loved and adored by is loved and adored by each of them. He is the apple of their eye and will be sorely missed by them and all who knew and loved him.

Mr. Rushing was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Robert V. Rushing Jr., three brothers, Lloyd Rushing, John Rushing and Ralph Rushing, five sisters, Lorene Nix, Lucille Brown, Mavie Edwards, Margie McMahan and LaDean Reams.
