Robert Wayne “Bob” Bingham, 77, of Belton passed away on April 8 at a Temple hospital.

He was born on November 29, 1947 in Houston, Texas, to Henry Otis Bingham and Phyllis Dawn Grayum Bingham. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1966.

He joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Joseph Strauss during the Vietnam War. His ship, part of the Westpac fleet, was stationed at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, where he learned to surf. His time in the service took him to countries such as Australia, Japan and the Philippines.

Robert was a member of IUPAT Glaziers Local 1778 in Houston and worked for several glass companies. He was a longtime Cypress resident and a member of the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department, Station #2.

He also owned and operated a paint and body shop, traveled throughout the country as a long-haul truck driver and finally worked at Mustang Cat in Houston.

After retirement, he and his wife, Beverly, moved to Belton in 2015. He was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Belton. He also was a Freemason in Houston and then at Belton Lodge #166.

Bob enjoyed deer hunting and saltwater fishing. An avid guitar player, he was a life member of the Friday Night Jam Society in Austin.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Beverly; his son, Greg Bingham, and wife Erin of Tomball; his daughter, Glory Wille and husband Greg of Belton; four grandchildren: Lance Wille, Lanie Bingham, Claire Wille and Bradie Bingham; and his sister Julie Rubino and husband Tony of Galveston.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Paul Bingham.

Bob enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and other activities. He had numerous close friendships and was known as a kind, caring, selfless person who always was eager to help anyone in need.

His family extends a special thank you to the employees of Fresenius Kidney Care in Temple for their attentive care and dedication. “It takes great strength to live life on a machine.”

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Monday, April 14 at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton. His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15 at First Baptist Belton, 506 N. Main Street. A private family burial will take place at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
