Raymond Trejo passed away Sunday February 11, 2024, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born on December 8, 1938, in Rawlins, Wyoming to parents, Rudolph and Nora Trejo. He spent his formative years in Rawlins, Wyoming, and in 1956 he joined the US Air Force spending four years in the Panama Canal zone. It was while he was there that he began flying fixed-wing aircraft. After leaving the military, he went to Spartan School of Aeronautics and obtained his flying certificates. In 1960 he went to work for the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission flying fixed-wing aircraft. He transitioned into flying helicopter in 1967 where he did a contract flying for the military in Mineral Wells, Texas and Fort Rucker, Alabama training pilots going to Vietnam. After the Vietnam war, he worked for the Columbus Police Department flying their helicopter. Some years later, he flew for Air Logistics flying workers back and forth to offshore rigs. His flying career took him many places all over the world, including Korea, where he flew for the Korean government, spotting tuna in the south Pacific Ocean.
Ray was always an advocate for education. He earned a diploma from the Alabama Institute of technology. He also attended Columbus University in Columbus Georgia and earned an associate degree in criminal justice. He was completing his bachelors degree in education, but was not able to complete it due to work obstacles at the time.
Ray met his wife, Bernita, the love of his life, in Pinedale, Wyoming, where they were married in 1962. Together they had many adventures and were able to travel all over the world and many parts of the United States (most of the time in an RV).
They have five children: daughter, Tammy, and spouse, Kevin Hansen, three sons, Raymond, Scott Trejo, and wife, Elizabeth, Thomas Trejo, and wife, Jennifer, Mark Trejo and wife, Vanessa, and daughter, Stacy Dunivent, and husband, Richard. As well as 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Ray and Bernita moved to Temple Texas in 1983 and made their home in the country there. Ray‘s faith was nondenominational, he believed in our heavenly father and tried to live his life as God would want him to. He became ordained in 2012 to officiate his son Scott’s wedding to Liz and again in 2018, when he officiated his granddaughter, Kelly‘s Ceremony to Weston Mings. He was a man of humility, always caring for his fellow man. He made sure anyone who came to the house, including the delivery people, left with drinks and a snack. His grandchildren always got a tank of gas and a sandwich. There was always an extra seat at the table for anyone who stopped by. He will be remembered as a kind, generous man by all who knew him. We will miss him dearly.
A celebration of life for Raymond will be held from 1 to 3 PM Sunday, February 25, 2024, at the American Legion Hall #133, 1300 S. 25th Temple, TX 76504 . A private graveside service will be held in the future.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly request donations be made to the American Legion #133 or The Alzheimer’s Capital of Texas Chapter association: 5508 Highway 290 W. Suite 206 Austin, Texas, in Ray’s memory.
