Phyllis Wick

October 25, 1945 — March 28, 2022

Born Phyllis Marie Koelzer on October 25, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas the family briefly lived in Lansing, Michigan before returning to San Antonio. She was the daughter of Frederick and Lillian Koelzer and sister to Andrea (deceased) and brother Michael Koelzer.

She graduated from Providence High School then received her B.A. degree from St. Mary’s University and her Masters Degree in Education from University of Texas at Austin in 1971.Teaching in San Antonio, Austin, Belton, and Temple, Phyllis taught special education, mathematics, chemistry, and her favorite subject biology. She also participated in theater and community choirs.

She married Steven Charles Wick on November 27, 1971 and had three surviving daughters: Marissa Suzette Wick, now living in Owensboro, Kentucky; Erica Anne Wick, married to Daniel Perez who have two sons, Donovan and Jacob living in Waxahachie,Texas; and Laura Marie Wick also in Waxahachie. She is survived by her younger brother Michael Koelzer living in Powhatan, Virginia.

A member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Belton, Phyllis served for years as choir director and cantor, taught religious education, served as wedding coordinator, and was a member of the Women’s Ministry. She loved music and sang at many ceremonies and celebrations including weddings and funerals. She was in charge of the Morgan’s Point Volunteer Fire Department fundraiser selling cookie baskets for St. Valentine’s Day raising thousands of dollars over many years. Phyllis was also a lay Associate Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate and served with the Oblate Fathers in the mountain missions of Oaxaca, Mexico. She also loved travel, camping, hiking, gardening, was an avid reader and member of the Cedarbrake Reading Club.

Phyllis Marie Wick, a loving wife and mother, was a friend to so many and treasured her friendships. All who knew her loved her. “Honor her for all that her hands have done and let her works bring her praise…” Proverbs 31:31.
