Patricia "Patty" (Flanary) Drake, 61, of Belton, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at a Temple hospital, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Belton.
Born on March 12, 1963, in Baltimore, Maryland, Patty was the daughter of Ronald E. Flanary Sr. and Ida C. Flanary. She grew up in Baltimore, Dallas, Amarillo, and eventually settled in Belton. A proud graduate of Temple High School, Class of 1982, she later earned her Associate's Degree in Business Administration from Temple Junior College.
On August 3, 1996, Patty married Jimmy Drake Jr. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Belton. She is survived by her two children: daughter Shelby Flanary of Belton and son Will Drake, his wife Amy, and their daughter Anastasia, also of Belton.
Patty served as the Branch/Compliance Manager for Wave Health Care for seven years and previously worked for Epic Health Services, formerly Medical Staffing Network & Nurses Plus, for 14 years. A passionate advocate for special needs children, Patty cherished her role in caring for them and loved organizing events such as Easter and Halloween carnivals, and providing Christmas for less fortunate families. She found immense joy in seeing the smiles on the children's faces. Patty also adored her nieces and nephews, especially her great nephew Cash and great niece Carsyn, who always brought a smile to her face.
In addition to her family, Patty had a large circle of close and cherished friends who loved her dearly. Her warm spirit and kindness touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by the ICU doctors, nurses, and staff at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple. Patty also held a special fondness for her Family Practitioner, whom she affectionately called Dr. RaRa, and Dr. Christopher Chiles.
In her free time, Patty loved to travel, read, cross-stitch, and play games—always with a competitive spirit. She played to WIN, sparing no one! She cherished her Bunco Babe group, with whom she shared a close bond for over 15 years.
Patty was preceded in death by her father, Ronald E. Flanary Sr., and her brother, Ronald Flanary Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Drake Jr.; her daughter, Shelby J. Flanary; her son, Will H. Drake and wife Amy; her mother, Ida C. Flanary; her sister, Susan Frick and husband Troy; and her granddaughter, Anastasia Rowe. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and one great niece and great nephew.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart of Central Texas Independent Living Center (HOCTIL) of Belton, PO Box 636, Belton, TX 76513, Phone: 254-933-7487.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the love, support, and prayers offered during Patty's sudden illness. Your kindness, phone calls, texts, and meals have provided great comfort during this difficult time.
