Martha Ray Davis

August 13, 1946 — June 10, 2023

Martha Ray Davis, 76, of Temple, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2023.

Martha was born on August 13,1946 to Hubert and Florence (Parks) Ray in Pulaski, Tennessee, though most of her life was spent residing in Texas. She graduated from Round Rock High School and later earned a degree in accounting from Mary Hardin Baylor. Martha was a CPA and ran several businesses throughout her lifetime. She kept busy at tax time, always helping others when needed. An active member of the American Business Women’s Association, Martha was recognized as “Woman of the Year” in 1988 for the Charter Oak Chapter in Belton.

Martha married James Davis on September 22, 1972. Together they welcomed two sons, Floyd Davis and Michael Davis. They lived in Missouri until moving back to Texas in 1979, where Floyd and Michael were surrounded by aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Always a smile on her face, Martha had an infectious laugh that would fill a room with love. She was resilient, and faced every obstacle with a smile and hope. She always found the good in any situation, and your day would become brighter simply by having her in it. Martha was happy to share a memory or listen to any story you had to share. She would give the softest advice, often something you didn’t know you needed to hear until she had said it.

Martha’s joyful spirit carried over to everyone she met, and she gave her life to giving to others. She was an active long time member of Nolan Valley Baptist Church where she made many friends and shared many smiles. Martha loved her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews deeply. She celebrated and cheered all of the good that surrounded her.

Martha is survived by her grandchildren, Michael Lee Davis, Levi Davis, Cecilia Cofer, and Sammie Hightower; three siblings, Nancy (John) Alexander of Belton, Texas, Judy (William) VanDaele of Monroe, Michigan, and Skeeter Ray of Belton, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sons; a grandson, Cody Gould; four siblings, Bobby Ray, James Ray, Peggy Benner, and Janice Sweet; and nephews, Gaylon Sweet and Richard Benner.
