Kenneth Earl Best was born on September 21, 1940 in Houston, Texas and passed away on October 24, 2018 in Temple, Texas at the age of 78.  Ken was a loving and devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nelda Best, and daughters Kay Whitt (Mark), Sharon Chandler (John), Kathy Falger (Eugene), Debbie Smith (Bobby), and Natalie McDermott (Jim), 15 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by mother and father, Estelle and Fredrick Best, birth mother Claudia Warren and Woodrow Warren, and daughter, Karen Nelson.

Ken proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1957 through 1961, when he was honorably discharged.  After leaving the Air Force, he began a 42 year career in Law Enforcement where he was dedicated to protecting and serving his fellow citizens.  He served in several law enforcement agencies including the Bowie County Sheriff’s Department, the Tomball Police Department, and the Teague City Police Department, where he served as the Chief of Police.  He retired as a Sergeant from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department where he was the supervisor of the Communication’s Department.  He will be honored by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department with the Last Call Ceremony in recognition of his many years of service.

Ken was also an ordained Baptist Minister and pastored several Mission Churches during his life.

Ken will be interred with military honors at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery located at 11463 State Highway 195 in Killeen, Texas.  Services will begin at 1:00 p.m on Friday, November 9, 2018.  It is requested that attendees arrive at the collection area inside the front gate at 12:45 p.m. for the procession to the ceremony.

Memorial donations in memory of Kenneth Best may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or your charity of choice which supports fallen Law Enforcement Officers and their families.
