Joseph Samuel Robertson, Jr.

Joseph Samuel Robertson, Jr., beloved brother, husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, Texas.  He was born June 28, 1937, in Danville, Virginia, to Joseph Samuel Robertson, Sr. and Lucille Hubbard Robertson.

Robertson began his career at seventeen in the United States Army in 1955.  Master Sergeant Robertson served in Korea, Japan and Vietnam.  He served with the 1 ^st Special Forces Group and the 173 ^rd Airborne Brigade, and was involved in the Tet Offensive campaign.  Some of his military awards include:  the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal (which included one Silver and three Bronze stars), the Master Parachutist Badge (for more than sixty-five jumps), the Good Conduct Medal (which included four loops), the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, the Nationalist China Parachutist Badge, and the Bronze Star medal with the oak leaf cluster.

His final station of duty was Fort Hood, Texas in June of 1974. After twenty-one years in the United States Army, he and his wife Setsuko Tsukayama Robertson retired to Belton, Texas where they became small business owners, opening three laundromats and an appliance repair service.

Robertson was a DeMolay, a fifty-year Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, National Shrine Clown Association, Master Mason at the Grand Lodge of Texas, Belton number one hundred sixty-six, and lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.  Early in his life he enjoyed volunteering with the Shriners, bowling, golf, and scuba diving.  In retirement, Robertson and his wife traveled widely, and enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren.  His volunteer work included mentoring students at Chisholm Trail Elementary School, as well as in Belton Citizens Helping in Police Service (CHIPS) program.

Robertson was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister, and devoted and loving wife of forty-four years, Setsuko. He is survived by daughters Tammie Robertson Baggerly of Belton and Judy Ann Robertson of Austin, Texas; son-in-law Brett Allen Baggerly; grandchildren Madden Brooke Baggerly and Grant Robertson Baggerly; and his many friends.  He is fondly remembered by all who knew him and he will be sorely missed.

The family will receive friends for visitation Saturday, April 6, at 1:00 p.m. Service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Dossman Funeral Home, 2525 North Main Street, Belton, Texas.
