Joseph (Joe) George Goergen, Jr.

Joseph (Joe) George Goergen, Jr., 94, of Round Rock, died Saturday, April 22, 2023. He was born March 13, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois, the firstborn son of Joseph George Goergen, Sr. and Jeanette Mitchell.
Mr. Goergen served in the United States Army Air Corps, which later became the United States Air Force, during the Korean War. He was a pre-deployment drill instructor at Lackland Air Force Base and was responsible for integrating the first mixed race regiment in the area. After his discharge from the service, he stayed in Central Texas because he loved the heat and the people.
Mr. Goergen was a classic entrepreneur. He either started businesses or helped others start businesses his entire career. He founded Goergen Builders, Goergen Properties, Professional Services and Radon Texas, all in Central Texas. If he wasn't building a home, he was inspecting a home or selling a home. Mr. Goergen also built many commercial properties in Central Texas, including the Bank of Pflugerville and numerous Whataburgers, Burger Kings and shopping centers.
Mr. Goergen married Barbara Navarrette December 20, 1976, and recently celebrated their 46
th
wedding anniversary. He was a Christian and believed in extending a helping hand to others.
Survivors include his wife Barbara Goergen of Round Rock; three daughters Vikki Branning of Lake Jackson, Anna Bedos of Virginia and Barbara Jo Goergen of Dallas; two sons Peter Navarrette of Austin and Michel Navarrette of Georgetown; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He loved his family, and he especially loved being a grandfather.
Funeral services for Mr. Goergen will be held at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Dossman Funeral Home Chapel in Belton with Pastor Josh Aguas officiating. Burial will follow at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Viewing for family and friends will be available from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home or the American Heart Association.
