John (“Johnnie”) Rovelli was born on September 24, 1941 to Arselio and Virginia Rovelli in Boston. He grew up in Agawam, Massachusetts, and joined the Army in 1959. While stationed at Fort Hood, he met Gailen Clark, and fell in love.
Johnnie would hitchhike and walk 31 miles from Fort Hood to visit Gailen and take her for ice cream. Eventually, Gailen’s family would invite him over for hamburgers on Saturday night. Instead of going back to Massachusetts after his military service, he decided to make Temple, Texas his home. On June 15, 1962, Johnny & Gailen married. Not long after, they had two children – Michelle and Kevin.
In his spare time, Johnnie loved to be on the golf course. Sometimes he would play, and other times you could find him in the creeks and high grass finding golf balls that other golfers had lost. On Saturday mornings, he enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee. He was also a devout Temple Wildcat football fan, and he had season tickets to watch them play almost every season. He would travel to watch the team play in rain or shine. Johnnie was also passionate about his yard. It was always the greenest on the block.
Everywhere you went, you could find someone who knew Johnnie. Many people loved him. He cherished his five grandkids and kept in touch with distant relatives in Massachusetts, Italy, and all over the world. His family and friends will miss him dearly.
Funeral services for Johnnie will be held on Friday, September 18, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton with Rev. Mike Baggerly officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Rest Haven Cemetery in Belton.
