John Joe Pierce

Funeral service for John J. Pierce, Sr., 90, of Temple will be Monday 11 am at Rest Haven Cemetery with Ernest Minor officiating. Mr. Pierce died Tuesday August 19, 2020 at a Temple nursing home.

He was born August 19, 1930 in Panna Maria, Texas the son of Benjamin Hines and Sarah Jane (Brown) Pierce. He married Bertha Pruett in 1957. Together they were members of the Church of God of the First Born in Belton for 50 years, during that time John served as Deacon. He worked as a farm hand and was known as “Papa” to his grandchildren all of which he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, a sister and two grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Bertha Pierce; two sons, John Joe Pierce, Jr., and wife Sandy of Moody and Michael Lee Pierce, Sr. and wife Norma Barnhart of Hot Springs, Montana; two daughters, Sharon Jolean Baker of Temple, and Sarah Mae Cowen of Temple; fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 am to 10:30 am Monday August 24 at Dossman Funeral home in Belton, Texas.
