Jesse Joe Whitley

Funeral services for Jesse Joe Whitley 64, of Belton, will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, March 31, 2023, at the Dossman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Ray Crow officiating.  Burial will follow at the North Belton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for visitation Thursday evening, March 30, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00pm, at Dossman Funeral Home.

Mr. Whitley died Sunday, March 26, 2023, in a Temple Hospital.

Mr. Whitley was born March 20, 1959, in Belton, the son of Nathan Blair Whitley and Barbara Ann Whitley, the eldest of four children. Joe loved playing both football and baseball for the Belton Tigers.  He graduated in 1978 from Belton High.

Joe owned Whitley Lawn Services for the last ten years.  He was also a tile supervisor for Jason Carothers Home Builders and the caretaker for all the lawncare of Jason Carothers Home Builders properties.   Although he fought with chronic pain daily, he was devoted to making each yard a beautiful landscape in the eyes of the owner.

Joe was absolutely devoted to spending time with his nieces, nephews, and great-nephew.  He loved them all unconditionally.  “U Joe” as they called him, supported them throughout their entire lives.  We must also remember his love for cooking on the grill.  U Joe’s chicken, ribs & steaks were the best.  He was also passionate about fishing and never missed an opportunity to wet a hook.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan Blair Whitley and Barbara Ann Whitley and youngest brother, Michael Allen Whitley.

Survivors include his sister, Patti Wright of Woodway; brother, Scott Whitley, and his wife Denise of Belton; nieces and nephews, Kari Haynes of Temple, Nick Wright of Woodway, Whitley Wright of Moody, Jennifer Whitley, and Jessica Whitley both of Temple; and great-nephew, Mason McKillop.

The family asks guests to wear their red and black in honor of Joe and his love for the Belton Tigers.
