Jan Brooks

Jan Caskey Brooks, 83, of Belton passed away Wednesday, September 27,2023.

Services will be held at Dossman Funeral Home on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 10am with Minister Tom Beaver officiating. Burial will follow at Florence City Cemetery in Florence. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8pm.

Mrs. Brooks was born in Vernon, TX, May 3, 1940. She lived in the Waco State Home for Children 1942-1946. She was adopted in 1946 by Lathel and LaBera (Ellis) Caskey.

She attended Belton ISD, graduating from Belton High School in 1958. She attended Mary Hardin-Baylor, Abilene Christian College, and graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio. She taught second and third grade in San Antonio, Lamesa, Conroe, and Belton, a total of 24 years. She was a member of Texas State Teachers Association and local teacher organizations. She was a member of Belton Church of Christ. She married Carlos Dewayne Brooks in 1979.

She is survived by her husband of Belton, her daughter Catherine Campbell of Belton; 2 sons, Damon Brooks and Kevin Brooks; 4 grandchildren, Hannah, Ella, Makayla, and Steven; 3 great-grandchildren, Curtis, Jordyn, and Michael; and one sister, Donna Mae.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Christie; and 3 brothers, Walter Harper, Duell Harper, and James Harper.
