Funeral services for James L. Sims, 71, of Killeen, will be held at the Dossman Funeral Chapel in Belton, Friday at 11:00 AM with Minister H. K. Ballard officiating. Burial will be at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Mr. Sims died Tuesday, May 5, 2020 in a Harker Heights Hospital.
Mr. Sims was born August 21, 1948 in Charlotte, North Carolina, the son of Jay and Eva (Newsome) Sims. He married Lynne Gilbert, August 4, 1972 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. They moved to Central Texas in May 1983. He was retired from the United States Army. He worked at Scott and White for a few years before working as a prison guard and retired again.
Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his wife January 11, 2020, parents, one sister Geraldine Sims and two great grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons Dennis Sims of Belton, James Sims, Jr of Tennessee and Stephen Sims of Palestine, Texas; one daughter Vicky Liakos of Canada one brother Jesse Sims of South Carolina; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A visitation will be held from 3-6 PM Thursday at the Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.
Memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America.
