Jim was born on August 2nd, 1948, to Raburn Irvin Mitchell and Evelyn Marie Cochrell Mitchell in Belton, Texas.
He left Texas and moved to California to work for the Department of Agriculture. After retirement, he grew pumpkins and helped care for horses. He returned home to Texas eventually to spend time with his family.
Jim had many hobbies throughout his life. He loved horses and all things cowboy. He would spend any free time he had fishing and riding in his younger years. If he couldn't get out, he could be found reading or watching Western's or sharpening dull knives.
Jim is survived by his son James Raburn Mitchell, grandchildren Tate and Bryant, step-son Jimmie Mitchell, step-daughter Victoria Costa, brother Randolph “Doc” Mitchell.
