Grace Vallejo was granted her angel wings unexpectedly on March 13, 2023. Her final days were spent surrounded by family throughout her short, yet very memorable life.
Grace’s life and quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. She touched and helped so many people in her life that her legacy will live on.
Although she was petite, she had a mighty spirit. Grace taught us to live with honesty, character, integrity, faith, love, loyalty and was a generous person. We are reminded of the preciousness of life as we reflect on her final time with us.
Her niece remembers this past Christmas, shopping with Grace and asking if there was anything she liked or wanted. Grace had the biggest smile and shook her head with satisfaction that there was nothing in this world she needed. That gave us such insight into that she was happy in her life at that moment, nothing material could ever bring that contentment.
Education: Graduated at 17, youngest in her class, she loved to share how she saved up for her new red Monte Carlo car and would drive it playing Barry White music with windows open. Grace’s determination and hard work earned her a bachelor’s degree in Organization Management with High Honors.
Career: Grace was gifted in many ways and her main profession was her most devoted work of art as an IT Professional in the Nursing Department. Grace uplifted kids as a former head start teacher and was a foster parent.
Hobbies: Traveling (Coast to coast from California to Florida, as far up as Illinois), cooking (cake decorator certification), attending various genre live music concerts, gardening, nature walks, etc. Grace loved children and pets, she had two dogs (Bowie crossed the rainbow bridge this past Thanksgiving) and another dog who misses Grace very much.
Grace was extremely proud to be a long life Catholic, member of the Guadalupanas (Guadalupe Societies) which are religious associations that provide leadership in social concerns and perform works of charity.
She was a fan of Dallas Cowboys, you could tell Grace was watching the game as her mighty voice would yell, “GO COWBOYS GO!” and it would echo into our home.
Grace is reunited in heaven with her parents, Benito & Francisca Vallejo, and her brother Benny Vallejo. She leaves here on earth, her sister Margarita V. Torres from Van Horn, TX; two nephews; two nieces and numerous relatives throughout Texas.
Our family recently found out that we are descendants from the 1918 Porvenir Massacre survivors.
Our family was invited to the Austin Texas Capitol for the Porvenir Massacre Centennial Remembrance. It was the first public recognition of the tragic event of Jan. 28, 1918.
Our family was invited to commemorate this event. The Porvenir, Texas film was the subject of a documentary and was shown at the Paramount theatre in Austin as well as featured on PBS and was directed by the late Andrew Shapter. She felt that our family bonds were strengthened being born from survivors of this tragedy and our will to live, she did a lot of ancestry research, and it was important to her to know where we came from. We also found new relatives as part of her research and continue finding more.
Above all things, Grace was the BEST daughter, sister, aunt, and Godmother to all her nephews and nieces. There will never be another Grace, her smile and laughter will be missed dearly and our memories with her will always be cherished forever.
