Gerlinde Maria Jackson (Scharm)
1944 – 2023

On February 15 th , 2023, Ms. Gerlinde “Linda” Maria Jackson, loving wife, mother, and sister passed away peacefully in Temple, Texas. She was born to the late Franz & Anna Filomena Scharm in Trautenau, Czechoslovakia on October 10, 1944.

Linda grew up in Hasloch, Germany, after moving by wagon from Czechoslovakia with her eight siblings, parents, and grandparents which the men each took their turn carrying the wagon which held the children and their belongings. At the age of 17, Linda met Clarence Smith, 21, an Army solider who was stationed in Wertheim, Germany not far from where she lived. Shortly after they were wed, on July 6 th of 1962. Together they have four children, Dennis, Bill, Sabina, and Brenda.

The family moved from Germany to the United States by ship, the trip took nine days. On one of our trips back from Germany to the United States it took 9 days to cross the Atlantic In 1978 they settled in Killeen, Texas. On the weekends, they enjoyed camping at Stillhouse Lake and Union Grove. One of the most memorable trips the family shared together was a seven day trip that took them from Killeen to Fort Davis, Big Bend and then to the Caverns in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Linda remarried Charles Jackson on August 22, 1989, notably... in their fishing gear. They loved to go out fishing together on Lake Belton and spent many hours cross-stitching, a hobby they shared. Charlie passed December 04, 2022.

She was known for German cooking and loves to cross-stich with incredible skill. Her German cookies were famous and such fond memories were retold, as Linda would spend hours playing card and board games such as Rummy with her grandchildren. Remarkably, Linda taught herself how to not only speak English, but to how read and write it as well.

Linda is survived by her four children, sons, Dennis Smith & his wife, Michelle,Bill Smith & wife, LuAnn; daughters, Sabina & husband, Jeff Cottrell and Brenda & husband, Scott Wyman; grandchildren, Amanda, Shelly, Samantha, Hollie, Matthew S, Joshua, and Matthew C, Garrett, Asa, Casey, Rebekah; and numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Herbert, Erwin, and Alois Scharm; sisters, Rosa Heinisch, and Hedi Bleifusb.
