Donna Mae Carrell

Funeral services for Donna Mae (Nelson) Carrell, age 83, of Belton, will be held at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton Texas at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 14 th with Dr. Jeff Miller officiating.  The family will receive friends for visitation from 6-8 pm Friday, September 13 th at Dossman Funeral Home chapel.

Mrs. Carrell died Wednesday, September 4 th at LuVida Memory Care in Belton Texas.  Mrs. Carrell was born February 2, 1936 in Sargent, Nebraska; the daughter of John E. Nelson and Ruth Luella Hummel.  She met Lloyd H. Carrell and they were married on January 1, 1956 in Raton, New Mexico.  Mrs. Carrell was an elementary school educator both here and abroad.  She served as a missionary in Russia with Campus Crusades for Christ.  She lived in Roswell, NM for more than 30 years where she taught at Valley View Elementary School until retirement.  She was an active member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, serving as New Mexico State President.  She moved to Belton in 2008 and was a member of Foundation United Methodist Church.

When asked how she wanted to be remembered, she said “That I was a loving, caring Christian”.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Lloyd Carrell; her two brothers, Keith L. Nelson and Donald Nelson.  She is survived by one son, John Carrell, of Abilene, Texas; and one daughter, Cynthia Stovall, of Belton, Texas.  She has 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
