John Andrew Rhoden was born on August 10, 1988 in Norwood Massachusetts. He traveled through Kansas, Georgia and Alabama before settling in Lampasas Texas in 1994.
John completed first through 12 th grades with the Lampasas Independent School District. He graduated in 2006 as a proud member of the Lampasas Badger Band. During this journey John also rose through the ranks of the Boy Scouts of America program, starting as a Tiger Cub 1994 and achieving the highest honor of Eagle Scout in 2004. As an Amateur Radio Enthusiast John earned his Technician Class license and operated as KD5KWI. John continued his formal education receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, with honors, from the University of North Texas, Denton in 2010.
John joined the Bell County Sheriff’s department in June 2010 as a Corrections Officer. In August of 2014, after completing the Basic Peace Officer Academy as honor graduate, John was promoted to Field Deputy Officer. John loved many things including family, friends, fishing, art, music, and baseball, but most of all he loved helping others. He lived the motto “To Protect and Serve”.
He is survived by his parents; Michael and Erin Rhoden of Lampasas, Texas, and brothers Allen Hamilton of Seattle Washington, Michael L. Rhoden and Marcus D. Rhoden of Sebring Florida. In lieu of flowers send contributions to the Fallen Hero’s foundation (https://www.fallenheroesproject.org/)
John passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020 while serving his community performing a job that he truly loved. A public visitation for John will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2020 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Dossman Funeral Home chapel in Belton and can be viewed live at facebook.com/ushonorflag. The funeral service will be private but can also be viewed live beginning at 2:00 PM CST on Friday at facebook.com/ushonorflag. John will be laid to rest with Full Police Honors at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas, Texas on Friday afternoon. Please visit www.dossmanfh.com to leave condolences.
