Service for Donald Dewey Irick, 84, of Belton will be 2 PM Tuesday, May 25 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Morgan's Point with Rev. Jeremy Franks officiating. Don was born in Ashland, West Virginia to Dewey and Snowy Irick on April 6 th , 1937 and went to be with our Lord on May 20 th , 2021.
He married Lonetia Joy Jones on May 26, 1961, and was married to her for 47 years until her death on May 17, 2008.
He is survived by daughters Donetia Kemble (Ken) and Donna Squiers (Bryan); grandchildren Joshua Kemble, Elisabeth Christopher (Matthew), Sharon Abbie Shiley (Cameron), Tabitha Kemble, Landdon Squiers, Rachel Kemble, Rebekah Kemble, Breanna Smith (Caleb), Martha Kemble, Jonathan Kemble, Susanna Grace Kemble; and 6 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by granddaughter Sarah Kemble.
Don made a 23+ year career of serving his country in the U.S. Army, retiring as an E9 Command Sergeant Major from the 163 rd Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Hood, Texas. He served in the Vietnam War, the Cuban Crisis, and the Korean War. He retired from Fort Hood in 1977, having received numerous commendations, awards, and medals to include the The Legion of Merit Medal. After his retirement he spent time in Arkansas and Houston until finally settling in Belton in 1984. If you couldn’t find him in his garden, he was probably fishing. He loved and protected his family fiercely, and he had an infectious laugh.
