Clara Wood

Clara Lou McKown Wood, 83 of Belton died in Temple on December 22, 2020.

Funeral services for Clara will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton. Burial will follow at North Belton Cemetery.

Clara was born in San Saba, Texas on October 30, 1937.  After graduating from San Saba High School, Clara married P.W. (Sonny) Wood and they moved to Belton in the early 50s to start their journey of raising their two children and 63 years of marriage.  Clara and her family were long-standing members of the First Baptist Church of Belton.

Mrs. Wood, first and foremost was a wife and mother. She also helped Sonny run their business, American Angler Tackle for several years. Mrs. Wood also worked for Drs. Sewell and Long Clinic and finished her working career as a teacher’s aid in the Belton School District.

During their marriage Clara and her family enjoyed packing up the fifth wheel and going to the coast. After retirement she and Sonny broadened their travels to include Alaska twice and everywhere else they could go.

Clara is preceded in death by her son, John Davis Wood and husband, Sonny.

Mrs. Wood is survived by her daughter, Linda Beck of Belton, granddaughter, Laurie Porter and husband, Russell Porter of Temple, grandson, Joshua Beck and wife Cindy of Morgan’s Point, grandson, Jason Wood of Belton and three great grandchildren, Mason Davis Beck, Lily Wood and Payton Brewer.

Clara was loved and admired by countless friends and will be missed by all.

A visitation for Clara will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 AM on Saturday.

Dossman Funeral Home in Belton is in charge of the arrangements.
