Chong Ok Strickland, 75, a gentle and good-natured soul who carried the world on her shoulders, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on January 20, 2025. Born on December 5, 1949, in South Korea, Chong was the embodiment of kindness, resilience, and love. She touched the lives of everyone who knew her with her unwavering care and quiet strength.
Chong is survived by her loving husband, Skipper R.R. Strickland II; her devoted daughter, Donna Strickland; her protective son, Bobby R.R. Strickland III; her cherished grandson, Garrett Locklin, and her caring granddaughter, Jessica Locklin; her loyal sister, Mi Kim Jones, and her husband Daniel Jones; as well as her doting and loving niece, Michelle Jones. She will also be deeply missed by her extended family and many friends.
Chong's life was a testament to selflessness and compassion. Her mother passed away when she was young, and she selflessly left school to care for her much younger sister, a responsibility that set the tone for a lifetime of putting others first. As an Army wife, Chong raised two children while relocating across the world, creating a loving home wherever life took her.
Chong found immense joy in tending to her year-round garden, growing fresh vegetables and spices that she lovingly used in her cooking. Her culinary talents were well-known, and her egg rolls and kimchi were family favorites, often shared and savored by friends, neighbors, and anyone fortunate enough to enjoy her meals. Her home was a place of warmth and hospitality, where friends frequently gathered to share stories, play games, and enjoy one another’s company. Through the love she poured into her food and the welcoming atmosphere she created, she built memories that will be cherished forever.
Her family will forever hold dear her wisdom, gentle guidance, and the countless memories she created with them. She had a special bond with her grandson, Garrett, who brought her immense joy. Chong’s legacy of kindness, devotion, and her love of family will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A memorial service to honor her life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton, Texas.
