A memorial service for Brenda L. Hain, 63, of Killeen, will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 20, 2023, at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, with full military honors.
Ms. Hain died Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at her home in Killeen.
Ms. Hain was born, August 8, 1960, in Alexandria, Virginia, the daughter of Vernon and Margaret (Kaelber) Hain. Brenda attended Edison High School in Alexandria where she swam on the high school and local swim teams. As she grew, she developed a strong love for all animals, particularly horses and at a young age, owned her own Morgan/Quarter Horse named Ebony. She rode Ebony for many years competing in jumping competitions.
Brenda furthered her love for animals academically by attending Texas State Technical Institute in Waco, Texas, studying to be a veterinary technician. She continued to ride and competed in barrel racing. After a career in the veterinary world, Brenda found her true calling after enlisting in the United States Army. Her career there spanned more than 20 years and she retired from the 3 rd Army as a Master Sergeant. During her years of service, Sgt. Hain earned many achievement, service and commendation medals. Brenda was a veteran of The Gulf War, serving in Kuwait and Iraq during Operation Enduring Freedom. Her career with the Army took her to Germany, Central America, Ft. Benning, The Middle East and Ft. Hood. While at Ft. Hood, she served as a paralegal on the prosecution team in the Nadal Hussain Case.
Sgt. Hain also participated in marksman competitions and was a sharpshooter on numerous Army teams. After she retired from the Army, she enjoyed a career in the civilian world as a paralegal.
Brenda was a member of the Metropolitan Community Church in Austin.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include one brother, Bruce Hain, one sister, Barbara Hain, her beloved animals Brodie, Beauty and Seton, along with various foster animals and strays.
