Betty Lanell Kemp, 81, of Temple passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at a local hospital.
A Celebration of Life will be held with Betty’s friends and family at Garden Estates Assisted Living in Temple on Saturday, June 8, at 1:00 p.m.
Miss Kemp was born October 24, 1942, in Little Flock, TX, the daughter of Ernest Lee and Julia Ruth (Whatley) Kemp. She graduated from Belton High School in 1961. In 1965, she received a B. A. in Education from Mary Hardin-Baylor College. She later received a Masters Degree in Reading from Stephen F. Austin University.
Her first teaching job was in Hempstead. She remained in the Hempstead/Rosenberg/Richmond area until her retirement in 1998. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Rosenberg. Following retirement she returned to Belton where she enjoyed gardening and reuniting with old friends.
She was a member of the Garden Club, Retired Teachers, DRT, the Sanctified Red Hat ladies and active in her Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church Belton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Doris Kemp and Joyce Kemp, brother-in law Jerry Roberts, and nephew Steve Roberts.
Survivors include one brother, Dr. Leroy Kemp and wife Jean; one sister Carolyn Roberts; three nephews, Paul Kemp and wife Cindie, Timothy Kemp and wife Donna, Mark Kemp and wife Annette; two nieces Shelley (Roberts) Walrath and Shelley (Loven) Roberts, and many great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Belton or the Kemp Family Endowed Scholarship at UMHB, UMHB Station, Belton.
