Betty Whitlock passed away on December 15, 2023, in Temple, Texas.
She was born in Somerset, Kentucky, on March 17, 1942, to Hazel and Rual Wilson. After attending Somerset public schools, she attended and graduated from Georgetown College in Kentucky.
She was an outstanding teacher. For most of her career, she was a Speech and English teacher at Clinton High School in Clinton, Mississippi. After retiring from there, she taught in Marietta, Georgia, Little Elm, Texas, and Belton, Texas. She was an outstanding influence on generations of students, as an English teacher at multiple levels and as a Speech and Debate coach. She founded multiple speech tournaments and had a great influence on many, many lives. She was Teacher of the Year in Mississippi, and she was inducted into the National Forensics League Hall of Fame and the National High School Hall of Fame.
At Georgetown College, she met and married Craig Whitlock. They had three children together, Mike, Jeff, and Kathy. Her grandchildren (Christopher, Michael, Laura, Charlie, Adrien, and Wilson) and her great-granddaughter (Violet) were the joys of her life. They all love her very much.
She was preceded in death by her husband Craig, her parents Rual and Hazel Wilson, her sister Margy, and her beloved Aunt Violet. She is survived by her three children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
According to her wishes, there will be no service. Interment will be at Clinton Cemetery in Clinton, Mississippi.
