Anne Carter Francis was born on March 12, 1929, the daughter of John C. Carter and Magaret Ann Carter in Lead Hill, Arkansas.
She graduated from Lead Hill High School, class of ’47, and attended Harding College in Searcy, AR.
Anne was the first person Percy Andrew Francis, from Lindsay, CA., met when he arrived at Harding College to attend school on GI bill. They began a marriage of 66 years on August 12, 1950, in Searcy, AR.
She remained as secretary to president Dr. F.W. Mattox until Percy’s graduation in 1953. In 1957, Dr. Mattox then recruited Percy, Anne, and son, John, to move to Lubbock, TX., as part of the founders of Lubbock Christian College, now Lubbock Christian University. Anne continued as secretary to the president until 1973, when they moved to Temple, TX.
She then went on to serve as the secretary at Western Hills Church in Temple, TX., from 1973 until she “retired” in 1983, at the birth of her first grandchild to become Grammy. They moved to Belton, TX. in 2004, to be closer to John, Karen, Clayton, Elizabeth, and Ashlie and all the activities.
Upon Percy’s retirement in 1993, they purchased ‘Jake’, the motorhome, and traveled and volunteered in church and church camp renovations with Sojourners. Anne’s gift was a ‘gatherer’ of people. She loved her immediate and extended family with all her being and thought everyone she met should become ‘family’.
Her beloved Percy preceded her in death on August 20, 2016.
She is survived by son John Carter Francis and wife, Karen of Belton, TX.; grandchildren Clayton Andrew Francis and wife Adrien of Broken Arrow, OK., Elizabeth Kirchmeier and husband Danny of Belton, and Ashlie Motsinger and husband Mitchell of Belton; sister-in-law Norma Francis Stafford; nephew Ancil T. Davis of Witchita, KS.; and five great grandchildren Madelyn Francis, Mitchell Francis, Hazel Kirchmeier, Judah Kirchmeier, and William Motsinger.
