Andreanna “Ann” Bettencourt graduated from this earthly realm and went to be
with her Savior on October 12, 2018. Ann was born on July 7, 1944 in Springfield,
Massachusetts. She was raised on Chappaquiddick Island and graduated from
Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School in 1962. While attending high school she
worked as a telephone switchboard operator in Edgartown, MA. Upon graduation,
she attended Bryant and Stratton Commercial School in Boston, MA. She proceeded
to work as a legal secretary in Boston for nine years before deciding to follow her
family, and her heart, on an new path. Ann moved to Texas in 1972. She obtained
her Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioral Studies from the University of Mary
Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas, and subsequently obtained her Master of Arts
degree in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.
Ann then worked and served as a social worker as her life’s passion for the next 30
plus years. Ann worked at several institutions in San Antonio including Buckner
Baptist Children’s Home, St. Luke’s Hospital, Heartland-Manor Care, and various
hospice agencies. Ann loved her city of San Antonio. She was an avid San Antonio
Spurs fan, an active member of Oak Hills Church, and an instrumental member of
her thriving city. She loved spending her summers with family on Martha’s
Vineyard, where she attended Beacon of Hope Church in Edgartown, MA with
family. Ann loved yard sales, lighthouses, beaches, tejano music, country music,
country dancing, the San Antonio Riverwalk, and Eisenhower Park.
Ann led a full life filled with love, and more than anything, Ann loved her family and
friends. She was a representation of positivity, love, joy, faith, and fun for every
member of her family. She recently stated that she had the “summer of her life” on
Martha’s Vineyard with friends and family. She made every member of her family
feel valued, cherished, respected, and heard--which is no small feat. Her faith in
Jesus was an inspiration to all, and she truly represents a life well lived.
