Mr. Hays was born in Warsaw, Missouri, the son of Elmer H. Hays and Rue Sands Hays. He was a 1947 graduate of Belton High School where he excelled at sports. He served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Hays taught history and physical education for 30 years in San Antonio. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge in San Antonio. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Belton. Mr. Hays was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Richard Hays. Survivors include his wife Bobbye Hays of Belton (Morgans Point Resort), one son Arthur Hays and two step sons Jarrett E. Woods of Dallas and Robert C. Woods of China Spring; two brothers James (Jim) Hays of Belton and William Hays of Marshall, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Belton 205 East 3rd Avenue Belton, Texas 76513.
