Funeral services for James (Jim) H. Nixon, 81, of Temple, will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at the Dossman Funeral Home Chapel with long time friend and Minister Emeritus of Belton Church, Joe Baisden officiating. Mr. Nixon went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at a local hospital. James was born in Llano County on April 19, 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lila Nixon, a twin sister Alma Nixon and a brother Lester Nixon. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Nixon, his daughter Jamie Nixon of Glendale, California and son Tim Nixon, granddaughter Danielle Nixon and great grandson Rylan all of Austin, and Shirley's children Shawn Childress and Elaine Harris and grandson Davin Harris, also two sisters, Nina Moore of Portland, Oregon, and Marjorie Farrar of Royce City, Texas and many nephews and nieces. James served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He then graduated from Abilene Christian University and with a team from ACU he moved to South Dakota to assist in establishing a church which is still there today. James retired from the Texas State Comptroller's Office. He was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ and active in teaching World Bible School for over 20 years, he also drove for the American Cancer Society for 18 years as well as being involved in many other ministries. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Belton Church of Christ- Baisden Scholarship Fund, or World Bible School, P. O. Box 2169, Cedar Park, Texas 78630.
