Belton- Memorial services for Dale Summers, 96, of Temple, formerly of Illinois, will be held at a later date at the Rock Island National Cemetery in Illinois. Mr. Summers died Thursday June 28, 2012 in a Temple nursing home. Mr. Summers was born July 28, 1915 in Chester, Arkansas. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U. S. Army Air Corps. He married Ida Emery in Peoria, Illinois in 1939. He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal after 40 years. He was instrumental as President of the IAM Local 81 Union when President Kennedy signed the Executive order regarding the exclusive recognition of unions in the early 1960's. He was a member of the Moline Congregational Church in Moline, Illinois before moving to central Texas in 2008. Mr. Summers was preceded in death by his wife in 2001 and earlier by two sons Stephen Summers and Jeffery Summers. Survivors include two sons David Summers and wife Sandy of Temple, Texas and Ronald Summers and wife Joyce of Anderson, California; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Dossman Funeral Home of Belton is in charge of local arrangements.
