John Divis

John was born in Red Ranger, Texas to Emil and Rosalie Lesikar Divis on December 10, 1918. He was raised and attended school in Red Ranger, TX. He enlisted in the United States Army Infantry on January 3, 1940 and was discharged August 31, 1945. John attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served on the island of Oahu, Hawaii (Home of Pearl Harbor). When Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor he was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. After serving in Hawaii he was assigned to a detachment in Australia, New Guinea and Dutch New Guinea. He served overseas for fifty-two months and he then returned to the United States where he served in the Military Police detachment until his discharge in 1945. He farmed for one year in 1946 and then worked for Rheem Manufacturing Company in Houston for 18 months. John Divis married Ruby Lee Jezek on April 16, 1955 in Temple, Texas. He worked 38 years for the wood working industry as an inventory control clerk. in Temple, Texas. He spent all his life in Temple and the surrounding East Side Bell County area. John is preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 3 sisters. John is survived by his wife, Ruby Divis of 57 years, his sister, Vlasta Sims of Moody, TX, and children, Cheryl Marsh of Flagler Beach, FL, Janice Divis Paine of Temple, Texas, Darryl Divis of Temple, TX and Kevin Divis of Austin, TX. He also had 4 grandchildren, Alisha Henn of Temple, TX, Kristina Northam-Bailey of Ft. Worth, TX, Garrett Paine of Temple, TX, Brayden Divis of Austin, TX and 2 great grand-children. Services will be held at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton on Friday, July 13, 2012 at 2 pm. and burial will be at Seaton Cemetery in Seaton, TX. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2012 from 6 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to your local VFW.
