Gladys Gilbert West

Funeral services for Gladys Gilbert West, 104, of Temple, formerly of Lubbock will be held later this week in Lubbock at Sanders Funeral Home with burial at the Lubbock City Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation 6:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday evening, September 25, 2012 at the Dossman Funeral Home in Belton. Mrs. West died Saturday, September 22, 2012 at a Temple Nursing Home. Mrs. West was born November 21, 1907 in Blackwell, the daughter of D. J. Gilbert and Lillie Beatrice (Wilbanks) Gilbert. She was a 1925 graduate of Spur High School and a 1930 graduate of Texas Tech University. She taught school in Texas and New Mexico until 1936. She married Jackson R. West December 20, 1936 in Spur. They made their home in Lubbock County in 1938. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lubbock. Mrs. West moved to Temple in 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1965; four sisters and two brothers. Survivors include son Ray E. West and wife Sherilyn of Allen and daughter Caroline West of Belton; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelical Association P. O.
