Elena Cassiano

Belton--- Funeral services for Elena C. Cassiano or Tia Moré, 88, of Belton will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Belton, with Father James Misko officiating. Burial will follow at the Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation Monday evening from 6-8 PM at the Dossman Funeral Home Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM Tuesday at the Dossman Funeral Home Chapel with Armando Aguirre officiating. Mrs. Cassiano passed on to her Glory Friday morning, November 30, 2012 at Scott and White Hospital. Mrs. Cassiano was born May 7, 1924 in Cotulla, the daughter of Pedro and Demetria (Mendez Alaniz) Cortez. She was raised by her father and grandfather after her mother's passing. She put herself through school doing jobs such as a radio DJ, a singer, a foot and leg model and even a magician's assistant. She earned a business and a nursing degree, as well as a degree in floral design. Mrs. Cassiano was a founding member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Belton. She was both a member the choir and the church's first choir director. With Christ the King she was a religion teacher and an active member of the organization of Guadalupanos. Mrs. Cassiano was involved with many community projects such as ESL Teacher for Belton ISD and a minister for J. A. I. L. Prison Ministry. Mrs. Cassiano was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Julian Cassiano and one great grandchild. She is survived by one son Julian Cassiano of Illinois, two daughters Thelma Hernandez of Belton and Mary Petke of Illinois; one brother Hernan Cortez and wife Zonia of San Antonio. 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren, various nieces and nephews. Grandma loved the Lord and music. She will be greatly missed.
