Belton Funeral services for Leslie Joe "Shorty" Carter, 84, of Llano, formerly of Academy, will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Dossman Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Newsome and Rev. Jim Brazzil officiating. Burial will follow at the Wilson Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation 6-8 Friday evening at the Dossman Funeral Home Chapel in Belton. Mr. Carter died Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at his home in Llano. Mr. Carter was born December 25, 1927 in Blewett the son of John and Nora (Bingham) Carter. Mr. Carter trained horses for a few years for the Briscoe Family. He was a veteran of the United States Army stationed in Germany and later Ft. Hood. He married Betty Whitehead, December 21, 1950. Mr. Carter lived in Academy from 1957 - 1984. While in Academy he worked for Academy ISD from 1970 until retiring in 1984. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church Academy. He married Patsie Whitehead September 6, 1984 and moved to Llano. While in Llano he was a member of First Baptist Church Llano. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his first wife Betty June 14, 1984, one son Willis Maurice Sansom and a granddaughter. Mr. Carter is survived by his wife Patsie Carter of Llano, three sons Leslie D. Carter of Little River, Dennis Carter of Little River and Gene Carter of Temple; two daughters Janice Power of Round Rock and Barbara Pratt of Moody; two step sons Richard Anderson of Santa Clara, California and Michael Anderson of Alice; four step daughters Kathy Langner of Knippa, Becky Prebbenow of Llano, Lebo Turkett of Uvalde and Audrey Sagebiel of Llano. 26 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the South Texas Children's Home in Beeville, Texas
