Ret. Col. Homer Lee Walker

Belton--- Graveside services for Ret. Col. Homer Lee Walker, 86 of Belton, will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Dossman Funeral Home in Belton. A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 6PM to 8PM. Col. Walker died Friday, May 24, 2013 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple. He was born May 4, 1927 in Marion, North Carolina to Ira Lee Walker and Queenie Edna (Bowman) Walker. He retired from the United States Army in 1975 after 30 years of service in which he rose to the rank of Colonel. He then received his Law Degree and practiced until retirement. He was a member of the VFW, State Bar Association of Texas and the Austin Ski Club. He loved to snow ski, travel, cycle, read, and trade in the stock market. He married Jennie Louise (Smith) Walker from 1953 until 1977 then was later married to Elizabeth (Kelly) Walker from 1983 until 1989. He is preceded in death by his parents; a wife, Jennie Louise (Smith) Walker; one brother, James Edward (Bill) Walker; and a sister, Barbara Ann (Walker) Brandon. Survivors included three sons, Michael Lee Walker, Mark Stephen Walker, Home Lee Walker II; two daughters, Rebecca Smith Walker Hilliard, Jennie Louise Walker; two grandchildren, Jaylee Hilliard and Ryan Hilliard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bell Post 1820 VFW, 3302 Airport Rd, Temple, Texas 76504.
