James Lowell Stephens

Funeral services for James L. Stephens, 84, of Belton, will be held Friday, June 28, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Dossman Funeral Home Chapel in Belton. Burial will follow at the North Belton Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation 6-8 PM Thursday evening at the Dossman Funeral Home. Mr. Stephens died Friday, June 14, 2013, at his home in Belton. Mr. Stephens was born February 27, 1929 in Stratford, Oklahoma, the son of Edwin and Arie (Van Pelt) Stephens. He attended Oklahoma State University. He married Elaine Kimler June 25, 1949 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He worked in engineering for Brown & Root for 35 years retiring in 1986. Mr. Stephens was a Baptist. He served in the Baptist church as a deacon for more than 50 years. He was a member First Baptist Church Pasadena, First Baptist Church Onalaska, Tusculum Hill Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee, University Baptist Church in Huntsville and First Baptist Church Belton. Survivors include his wife Elaine Stephens of Belton, two daughters Donna Boyd of Salado and Kathleen Stephens of Nashville; two sons James Stephens Jr. of Houston and Daniel Stephens of Lynchburg, Virginia. Nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.
