Ruth Estelle Vannoy Stewart Graveside services for Ruth Estelle Vannoy Stewart, 92, of Belton, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at North Belton Cemetery with Rev. Darren Walker of First United Methodist Church of Belton officiating. Mrs. Stewart died on Friday, March 21, in a Temple memory care home. She was born February 1, 1922, to Richard Thomas and Julia Lessie Kirchner Vannoy in Belton. She graduated in 1940 from Belton High School and attendedMary Hardin Baylor College. She worked for the Bell County Health Department, before securing a job at Ft. Hood as a civil servant. In 1949 she married Colonel James Thompson Stewart in Loving, New Mexico. She worked as a secretary for the First United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Most of her early adult life she was an Army wife and homemaker. She was a member of the Silver Strikers Bowling League for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband on November 29, 1988. Survivors include two sons, Jim Stewart of Pasadena, California and Jack Stewart of Holland; four daughters, Lesanne Hamrick of Granbury, Jan Ward of Belton, Julie Griggs of Temple and Laurie Steger of Belton; two step-daughters, Dea Jeanine Stewart of Springfield, Oregon and Pamela Stewart of East Sussex UK-England; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the Salvation Army. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.
