Peggy Ann Carpenter Hayes January 14, 1941 - June 27, 2014 Life Legacy Peggy Ann Carpenter Hayes was born January 14, 1941 in Belton, Texas to Kyle and Willie Lee Carpenter. She passed away very peacefully in Livingston, Texas on June 27, 2014 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Visitation will be held Monday, June 30, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton, Texas. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2014 in the chapel at Dossman Funeral Home and will be conducted by Rev. David Green. As a young girl she was very athletic and had a great love for horses. She spent most of her spare time with her horses or riding them. Peggy rode in almost every parade in Belton and was also very active with the Belton Rodeo each year, she was elected Rodeo Queen. She was also very active in school related activities. In addition to being an excellent student, she was in the Belton Tigeretts, class officer, student leaders club, F.F.A., science club, a cheerleader, sports queen and was elected Miss Belton High School. Peggy was born and raised in Belton and graduated Belton High School in May of 1959. She married Thomas Jarrell Hayes, Jr. in Lampasas, Texas in March of 1959 and moved to Kingsville, Texas where her new husband was attending college at Texas A & I University. While in Kingsville, she worked as receptionist/secretary for Roberts & Roberts Construction and also as secretary to the President of Texas A & I University. Peggy and family moved to Houston, Texas in 1962 and lived in the Houston and Humble, Texas area until 1998 when the family moved to Lake Livingston near Livingston, Texas. She had two (2) sons, Kenneth Brian Hayes, born 12/28/60 and Kelvin Ryan Hayes, born 12/19/62. Peggy also raised a granddaughter Jessica Nicole Hayes and a grandson, Kelvin Ryan Hayes, Jr. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren and raised them for 44 years. Peggy's working career included jobs as a receptionist/secretary at Spencer Herolz Architects, a secretary at Pace Petroleum in Houston, Texas and she worked in the Humble Independent School District tax office and as assistant to the Principal in the Humble, Texas school district. Her hobbies included fishing, gardening and yard work and painting. She was a good artist and gave most of her paintings to family and friends. She was also an excellent cook and her recipe box is a treasure. One of her favorite pass times was reading recipe books. Peggy also loved angels and the home has more than 80 angel figurines. She thought angels are real in some form and could make things better. Peggy was a long time member of the United Methodist Church in Humble, Texas and also in the Livingston and Coldspring, Texas area. Until she became home bound, she was very active in the church and made certain that her children attended church. Peggy was preceded in death by her father Kyle Carpenter of Belton, mother Willie Lee Carpenter of Belton, brother Kyle Don Carpenter of McGregor, brother Rick Carpenter of Troy, sister Tommie Lee Crane of Kingwood, son Kenneth Brian Hayes of Humble and granddaughter Jessica Nicole Hayes of Humble. Peggy is survived by her siblings Rosemary Barnes and husband Jerry of Belton, Texas and Judy Hargrove and husband Lynn of Littleton, Colorado. She is also survived by her husband Thomas Jarrell Hayes, Jr. of Livingston, TX, son Kelvin Ryan Hayes and wife Debi of Livingston, TX, grandson Kelvin Ryan Hayes, Jr. and wife Jessica of Lufkin, TX, granddaughter Erin Hayes of Beaumont, TX, granddaughter Crystal Hayes of Humble, TX, granddaughter Kena Hayes of Humble, TX, granddaughter Lacy Hayes of Humble, TX, granddaughter Lettie Hayes of Huntington, West Virginia and great grandchildren Dalton Hayes of Central, TX and Allison Hayes of Lufkin, Tx.
