Oscar Benton Barefoot

Funeral services for Oscar B. Poppie (Precious) Barefoot, 80, of Temple, will be held at 12:00 PM, Noon, Friday, January 23, 2015, at the Dossman Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers James LeFan and Loyd Hall officiating. Burial will follow at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. The family will receive friends for visitation Thursday evening, 6-8 PM at the Funeral Home. Mr. Barefoot died Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at his home in Temple. Mr. Barefoot was born November 14, 1934 in Fayetteville, North Carolina, the son of James Otis Barefoot and Melissa Hair Barefoot. He married Carolyn Nesler, February 14, 1953 in Evansville, Indiana. He served in the United States Air Force for more than 20 years. After retiring from the Air Force in 1974 they made their home in Temple. Later he was a superintendent for many municipal projects including the construction of water plants. He was a long time member of Western Hills Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Barefoot of Temple, one son, Michael Barefoot and wife Janice of Temple, one daughter Lisa Chadwell and husband Mark of The Woodlands; one sister Berline Willis and husband James of Ft. Worth; four granddaughters Laura O'Donnell and husband Vincent, Ella Neimela and husband Robbie, Chelsea Knutson and husband Parker and Samantha Chadwell; two great grandchildren Ethan and Molly. He also leaves behind many special nieces and nephews.
