Memorial services for Shelley Mullen Howell, D.O., A.C.O.F.P., of Bell County, will be held at 12:30 PM Thursday, January 29, 2015, at the Grace Christian Center in Killeen with Pastor Mark Price, Pastor Harry Thrasher and longtime dear friend, Titia Alredge - Califano officiating. A celebratory reception and devotional to honor Dr. Howell will be held later that day at 3:00 PM, at the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center in Temple with Tom Robbins and John Roark officiating. Dr. Howell passed away peacefully on Friday evening, January 23, 2015 at his home surrounded by his beloved wife, ZsaZsa, family and close friends. Dr. Shelley Howell was born, June 17, 1940 at King's Daughter Clinic in Temple. He is the son of Dr. Floyd and Ora Mae Howell. He was a graduate of Temple High School where he played football as a star running back earning him the nick-name "Flash". Dr. Howell's educational background included graduating from Southwestern University, Georgetown Texas earning a Bachelor of Science Degree. Dr. Howell studied abroad in West Germany and graduated from the University of Heidelberg, School of Medicine. Upon graduation, Dr. Howell moved back to Texas to attend Texas A & M University, where he worked in the Research Lab. Dr. Howell then attended Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, Texas and was among the first graduating class of the college. Dr. Howell served his General Rotation Internship at the Grand Prairie Community Hospital in Grand Prairie Texas. Dr. Howell was a well-loved and respected physician in Bell County for over 40 years. He practiced Family Medicine in Temple and served as the Physician for the Bell County Law Enforcement Center. He was on the staff of King's Daughters Hospital and a courtesy staff member of Metroplex Hospital. He served on the Advisory Board for many organizations including the Bell County Health Department, Jackson Healthcare, MHMR, and the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association. Dr. Howell received many awards throughout his years of service: "Patient's Choice Award", "Compassionate Doctor Recognition Award" , "Dean's Award for Distinguished Service" and "Distinguished Alumnus Award". Over the last eight years, Dr. Shelley Howell and his wife ZsaZsa combined their professional passions to create a partnership between Family Practice Clinic and Z Medical Aesthetics serving the community in health, wellness and beauty. Last year Dr. Shelley Howell was honored to join Belton's Wellstone Family Medicine Clinic serving for several meaningful months. Dr. Shelley Howell was a long time member and early supporter of Grace Christian Center in Killeen. He served on the Board of Directors and was an Elder. Survivors include his wife Zsa Zsa Howell, son Jeffrey Howell and wife Elizabeth, daughter Jessica Walker and husband Bruce; son Nicholas Howell, one brother Dr. Jon Howell and wife Lizzi, six grandchildren, Megan, Madeleine, Meredith, Branan, Connally, and Harrison; and one great granddaughter Aliya.
