Services for Eldrige L. McWhirt, 80, of Killeen, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dossman Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Callaway presiding. Graveside services will be at Killeen Memorial Park. Mr. McWhirt died Jan. 28, 2015. He was born Feb. 15, 1934, in Marion, Grant County, Ind. to Carl and Ida McWhirt. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in June of 1952 and served on active duty until July of 1955, and in the inactive Marine reserve until January 1958. He graduated from Glenwood High School in 1957 and Dell School of Medical Technology in 1957. Mr. McWhirt joined the U.S. Air Force in January 1958 and served at various stations in the U.S. and overseas until retirement in September 1975. After retiring from the Air Force he accepted a position with King's Daughters clinics as chief technologist and director of the Radiology Department in October 1975 until retiring from full time work July 11, 1997. He continued working in radiology during periods when there were shortages of qualified technologists and finally retired from all work at King's Daughters Clinics on Nov. 25, 2003. He was a life member of the Retired Enlisted Association. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Julia; two daughters, Christine Brown of Houston and Johana Villaneuva of San Antonio; nine grandchildren, Amber, Ashley, Robert, John, Britteny, Shelly, Jessica, Matthew, Nathaniel; 10 great-grandchildren, Chasity, Hailey, Tatum, Jezzie, Faith, Alexis, Jayden, John, Levi, LeeAnn; and a brother, James McWhirt of Castle Hayne, N.C. Dossman Funeral Home in Belton is in charge of arrangements.
