Louese (Lou) Watkins

LOUESE TAYLOR WATKINS Louese "Lou" Watkins of Belton was born Katherine Louese Naylor on August 30, 1936, to Cecil C. Naylor and Dovie Whitmore Naylor. She was born at their home in Bell County near Temple and resided in Bell County most of her life. The youngest of seven children, she attended Temple High School. Lou married Cliff Taylor in 1953 and they had three children, Pam, Debby and John. They owned and operated Dixie Discount, later known as Quality Discount, where Lou met many of her lifelong friends and served thousands of hot dogs and frito pies to hungry Belton school kids. After the store closed, she operated the The Snack Bar next door to her old store and sold and collected Aladdin lamps. She would travel once a month to Canton to buy, sell, and trade not only her beloved lamps, but other antiques as well. Her passion for Aladdin lamps multiplied over the years until she recently catalogued her collection at over 180 lamps. Through these years she enjoyed the fellowship of her friends with the Charter Oak Chapter of the ABWA of which she was a charter member. Following her antique business, Lou became an Avon District Manager. She found new friends through the area as she helped hundreds of women start their own business. She achieved Circle of Excellence, Avon's highest award, twice before retiring. Her favorite trip award was to Japan. Lou started this new chapter of her life as the wife of Lucian "Lou" Watkins on October 27, 2001. Our two Lou-Lou's were avid travelers and loved BPO Elks. Ms. Lou, as she was soon called, was very active with the Benevolent Patriotic Order of DOES, Temple Drove #139 where she served as Inner Guard, worked with Bingo and volunteered whenever asked for most of their service projects. They attended all state and many national conventions with great pleasure. This wonderful union brought Ms. Lou two more daughters, Susie Watkins and Debby Dunlap. Ms. Lou slipped peacefully into the waiting arms of our Lord and Savior on April 21 surrounded by her adoring husband, Mr. Lou, and many of their family. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, James Naylor and sisters, Merle Gregory and Marie Vick. She is survived by her husband, children, Pam (Trey) Tulloch, Debby (Rene) Desmarais, John Taylor, Susie Watkins, and Debbie (Joel) Dunlap; one brother, Bernie Ray (Margot) Naylor; two sisters; Mary Francis McGuire and Jeannie Davis; one aunt Allene Pruitt; grandchildren, Tiffany (Gordon) Lester, Michael (Naida) Tulloch, George (Jamie) Tulloch, Michael (Jennifer) Wilson, Brandy (Damon) Ward, Christopher Wilson, Alanah (Marshall) Smiland, Krissie Hennage, and Lee (Sharon), Elizabeth and Paul Howerton; 19 wonderful great-grandchildren.
