Belton--- Funeral services for John C. Churchill, 87, of Belton, will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, June 19, 2015, at the Dossman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darren Walker officiating. Burial will follow at the Rest Haven Cemetery in Belton. The family will receive friends for visitation Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Churchill died Tuesday morning June 16, 2015, in a Belton nursing home. Mr. Churchill was born December 23, 1927 in Three Rivers, the son of Fred and Carmen (Bates) Churchill. He married Norma Sewell September 19, 1948 in Three Rivers. He served in the United States Marine Corps before serving the rest of his military career with the United States Army. He retired from the Army in 1968 as Division Command Sergeant Major of the 2nd Armored Division. After retirement he worked for 10 years with Holland Supply. He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Belton where he actively participated on many committees and rolls within the church. He was also a member of the Belton Masonic Lodge. Mr. Churchill was known for giving to others. He handmade walking canes and gave them out whenever he saw a person in need. He carried them in his truck and would give them to strangers. He also loved to brighten someone's day by giving them a Werther's Caramel Candy. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and sisters and his wife Norma Churchill. Survivors include his son Fred Churchill and wife Cathy of Belton,; daughter Kathy Watts and her husband Robert.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Churchill, Adrienne Churchill and Michael Sulak. Memorials may be made to the Scott and White Hospice.
